😱💥A groundbreaking material just two atoms thick has been found to harden under pressure enough to stop bullets. Traditionally, bulletproof body armor is bulky and heavy, but this may soon change thanks to researchers at City University of New York. They've identified a material called diamene, which becomes as hard as diamond upon impact.

Diamene is formed by stacking two layers of graphene atop a silicon carbide base. Graphene itself is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice—renowned for being the strongest known material and an excellent conductor of heat and electricity.
