A White House-commissioned working group is urging Congress to expand on the House’s recently passed crypto legislation, while pushing federal regulators to roll out stablecoin rules more quickly.
The President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets, formed by executive order in January, released a fact sheet Wednesday outlining early recommendations ahead of a full report due later in the day. The group includes Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and SEC Chair Paul Atkins.

According to the fact sheet, the group wants Congress to build on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act — a bill passed by the House earlier this month — and align it with a Senate proposal introduced shortly after.
The group also called on the Treasury Department and banking regulators to move quickly in enforcing the GENIUS Act, a new law that sets federal guardrails for stablecoins. The measure, signed by President Trump earlier this month, requires dollar-backed reserves and clear issuance standards.
While the report touches on taxes, consumer protections, and tokenization, it noticeably leaves out language about a U.S. crypto reserve or Bitcoin stockpile — ideas Trump floated in a separate executive order earlier this year. That plan had called for building a strategic reserve including BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, and ADA, but stated no new assets would be acquired beyond those seized in forfeiture cases.
The White House’s crypto push is a sharp departure from the Biden administration, which took a tougher line on the sector. Lawsuits filed under Biden’s SEC targeted exchanges like Coinbase and Binance, but those cases have since been dropped under the new administration.
Wednesday’s release is the first public output from the crypto task force and lays out broad positions on turning traditional assets like stocks or real estate into blockchain-based tokens. According to officials, the report will discuss the topic extensively and call for the SEC to develop a framework that lets firms offer blockchain-based securities.#WhiteHouseDigitalAssetReport #btc
