The network's throughput has evolved significantly through technical upgrades:
December 2025: Reached the current all-time peak of 8,384 TPS.
May 2025: Set a temporary record of 2,763 TPS following performance enhancements.
Late 2023: Previously peaked at approximately 2,000 TPS during a period of high inscription minting.
Technical Upgrades Driving Speed
In 2025, the BNB Chain underwent two major hardforks (Lorentz and Maxwell) that fundamentally improved its capacity:
Block Time Reduction: Cut from 3 seconds to 0.75 seconds.
Transaction Finality: Reduced to 1.875 seconds, down from 7.5 seconds.
Gas Limit: The network bandwidth more than doubled to 100 million gas per second.
Future Targets
The BNB Chain development team is currently working toward a "Nasdaq-scale" settlement layer with the following goals for 2026:
Throughput: Targeting 20,000+ TPS for complex transactions.
Finality: Aiming for sub-150ms confirmation times.
Capacity: Expanding block gas limits to 1 billion to support up to 5,000 DEX swaps per second.
