It lowers costs and improves resilience at the same time. Nodes are economically motivated to stay honest through the WAL token, which is used to pay for storage and reward providers. The system relies on incentives rather than authority, which fits the broader philosophy of decentralized networks. Privacy is treated as a default setting, not a feature to be added later.
