But what's really happening?
According to Solana Beach / Compass right now (January 11 evening):
Only ~18% of the stake is already on a secure version
~51–52% are still stuck on the vulnerable v3.0.13
The rest are on ancient versions
This means: more than half of the entire Solana network is currently in a vulnerable window!
If someone finds an exploit on the old version — a huge part of the stake could be compromised.
PoS doesn't play around: one bug → cascading problems → chaos in DeFi, memecoins, and the entire ecosystem.
Why are updates so slow?
Active validators have dropped by half in a year (from 1364 → ~783)
Many small ones have left → the network has become more centralized
Big players are lazy or afraid of downtime
