SUI FOUNDATION GIVES LOAN TO CETUS

Following a $223 million exploit on its platform, Cetus received a loan from the Sui Foundation to fully reimburse affected users.

The May 22 hack targeted a vulnerability in Cetus's smart contracts, allowing an attacker to steal funds and bridge a significant amount to Ethereum before Sui validators could freeze some of the assets. Cetus has apologized and, along with the Sui Foundation, is urging the community to approve a vote to unfreeze the remaining funds, which is crucial for complete user compensation.

The incident led to a significant drop in CETUS token value and Sui's total value locked. The Sui Foundation has also pledged $10 million for broader security initiatives and an expanded bug bounty program, acknowledging its role in ecosystem security despite the bug being in Cetus's code.
