How does someone make it through a freezing night in the mountains when they can’t even stand?
In Croatia’s Velebit mountains, a hiker slipped, injured his leg, and was unable to move as temperatures continued to drop. His young Alaskan Malamute, North, refused to leave his side. Instead, the dog climbed onto him and stayed there for nearly 13 hours, using his body to help retain warmth until rescue teams arrived.
Close to 30 rescuers battled ice, wind, and darkness to reach them. Throughout it all, North remained calm, alert, and protective — never straying far.
Not every hero wears a uniform. Some show up with fur, loyalty, and quiet determination.
