Lets have a look at Decentralized Storage Infrastructure (DSI) projects other than @Walrus 🦭/acc for the sake of understanding I have clubbed them into groups according to the market cap but before that I am gonna give you an overview about how big the industry is, the total market cap of the DSI sector is valued at 7.4B - 9B projections to reach $61.2 billion by 2034. Top tokens see a daily volume of $50 million to $500 million in total depending on the market condition. FDV is often 3x-10x higher than current market cap due to long vesting schedules. Hope this gives you a rough estimated valuation of the sector.

This project is very interesting to study its current market cap hovers around $900M - $1.1B with an average price of 1.3$-1.5$ per token. The ATH of the token was 237$ on April 01 2021 🤔. You must be thinking why it lost ~99% well find the answer and reply me in the comment there is a learning. This project is based on the IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) technology it handles how files are addressed and moved instead of using a URL (location-based), it uses a Content ID (hash-based) to find data no matter where it is stored. #Filecoin is the incentive layer (the money) that pays people to keep the map working like $WAL is for #Walrus .

The Current market cap of this project is approximately $412M and ATH price 0.000003054$ (for the new $BTTC token) on January 18 2022 the token ATH may differ as it had token split. Similar to the $FIL token this token has also lost ~90% of its value. The project faced significant challenges like supply shock, token split, free rider problem (google it), Centralization, etc. BitTorrent relies on Legacy P2P mixed with blockchain.

@Arweave Ecosystem

It is currently trading around 3.53$ with a market cap of ~$231M its ATH was $90.94 on November 5 2021. It replaces traditional blockchains with a blockweave structure where blocks link to both a predecessor and a random historical recall block utilizing a Proof of Access consensus that forces miners to store data.

I was studying the whitepaper of #walrus and find it very impressive and forced me to write about it also it is on creatorpad task. I will summarize the key takeaways from the whitepaper which I found attractive in later posts I am gonna compare it with other decentralized storage system and the important usage of the decentralized storage system in our daily life and crypto and further discuss other important takeaways.

Firstly what matters in the decentralized storage system the most?

Security and privacy, Right?

$WAL has introduced a 2D erasure coding protocol instead of making copies of the data it uses 2D erasure coding which is cheap compared to traditional storage system protocol and safer. It fragments data into small pieces called slivers and distribute it globally so no node holds the complete file this plays an important role in privacy. If a single node holds the complete file than it is highly likely that during a compromistaion our data privacy and security can be breached. You know what fascinating about the protocol is the part which I like the most is that even if 2/3rd of the node which have a fragmented data file gets malicious or offline the protocol can reconstruct the original data.

Most of the decentralized storage system faces challenge in storing data as the system deletes the existing stored data to save space. So $WAL is the first protocol to use asynchronous networks to overcome this challenge. This prevents adversaries from gaining access during network delays. Network delays generally help the adversaries to pass the verification system without actually processing the data. @Walrus 🦭/acc has end-to-end encryption with storage layer for encypted blobs with authenticity that If a single bit is changed it won't verify the node. As it is on Sui ecosystem it uses Proof-of-stake (dPOS) to penalize malicious node. With this security protocol it serves as a major upgrade in crypto.
